March 2012. KENNESAW—Through a collaborative effort, Elevation Restaurant and Henssler Financial are supplying nutritious meals for the youth at the Kennesaw Teen Center.
“Pat Henssler and I had been working with the Kennesaw Police on a way to give back to our community,” said William G. Lako, CFP®, Managing Director at Henssler Financial. “When we asked what we could do, the police told us about their needs at the Teen Center.”
Lako explained that many of the children in the after school teen program would be able to eat lunch at school, but would often go home hungry with little to no dinner.
“Bil Lako called me to see if the restaurant could help. I enjoy giving back as much as we can,” said Michael Bowman, owner of Elevation Restaurant, located on the Cobb County Airport-McCollum Field campus. “We’re taking care of the menu and cooking. Henssler Financial is picking up the food at cost and helping with the delivery through the end of the school year.”
“The community has really come together for these kids. There have been times when all they can offer the kids are snack crackers,” said Pat Henssler, CPA, Principal at Henssler Financial. “We appreciate that the Teen Center wanted to offer healthy, nutritious meals, not just snacks.”
“Our kitchen can make almost anything,” said Bowman. “We’re really putting an emphasis on the foods the 11 to 15-year-old demographic will really enjoy—spaghetti with meatballs, burgers, chicken fingers.”
The Kennesaw Teen Center opened in late February, and is temporarily using the vacant Kennesaw Hardware Building on South Main Street, courtesy of the Kennesaw Development Authority. The Kennesaw Youth Council developed the center for the city’s at-risk youth to have a place to have fun, receive tutoring, and get career counseling.
