Thursday’s session ended in the green zone. Brands added gains in the wake of encouraging initial jobless claims data. The Labor Department said first time claims decreased by 5,000 to 305,000 last week. The results were well lower than the 325,000 expected. Meanwhile the Commerce Department’s third estimate on second-quarter gross domestic product growth was unchanged from the previous estimate of 2.5%. A 2.6% uptick was expected. In merger moves, EBay climbed 4.5% today after agreeing to acquire Braintree for $800 million, in efforts to build up its mobile-transactions business.
