MAY 2019. KENNESAW, Ga.— Henssler Financial challenged its staff to help stock the KSU CARE Services’ pantry for the summer semester and sweetened the donation with a match of $0.50 for every item—and boy did the staff deliver—13,725 items in total were donated!
CARE Services provides food for any Kennesaw State University student experiencing food insecurity. All supplies are based upon donations and are available to students, as long as supplies are continually received.
“Henssler Financial’s vision is to Invest in Others,” said Chief Operating Officer Stacy Haubenschild. “With so many Kennesaw alumni on staff, it is heartbreaking to learn that nearly 10% of KSU’s students are dealing with some form of homelessness or food insecurity. These are our fellow Owls, potential employees, and perhaps even future clients.”
The Henssler staff came together in a big way, fulfilling the pantry’s much-needed items, including more than 1,600 single-serve beverages, 3,700 packs of crackers, 1,800 packs of ramen, and more than 250 toiletry items. Additionally, the staff donated 12 hours of volunteer time at the CARE Services’ Kennesaw campus office and, of course, $6,862.50 in cash to help stock the pantry with fresh vegetables and meat.
“We’ve never had a show of effort and combination of money and food donations that large from one community donor at one time. Simply amazing!” exclaimed Marcy Stidum, CARE Services Director. “Thank you! [Henssler Financial] will never know just how much we appreciate all this. They have really helped us during a traditionally slow season for donations.”
“Henssler Financial is committed to helping Kennesaw restock those pantry shelves,” said Pat Henssler, a principal at the firm. “When we toured CARE Services, we learned that many of the students they help spent years in the foster care system and/or homeless in high school. Now that they’re in college, they can’t go home for a good meal like some of their classmates.”
