NOVEMBER 2019. KENNESAW, Ga.— For the third year in a row, Henssler Financial spent the month of October collecting food items and money for the Center for Family Resources’ Thanks for Giving food drive.
“This year we put an emphasis on gift cards and cash donations. These allow families to choose a turkey or ham at a local grocer,” said Stacy Haubenschild, Chief Operations Officer and Principal at Henssler Financial. “We’ve collected food and volunteered for a few years now, and naturally The CFR receives an abundance of yellow and green canned vegetables. While donations like that are needed, they don’t make a holiday meal. Family traditions are often centered around the turkey or ham. We wanted to keep these traditions alive for families in need.”
In total, the staff raised more than $3,800 in cash and $465 in gift cards in addition to 50 dessert mixes and 356 pantry items. The Henssler staff also volunteers their time to make the Thanks for Giving distribution happen for Cobb County families. Staff spent the morning unloading food deliveries, setting up tables, and sorting food so that afternoon volunteers could pack boxes customized for family size and the children’s ages.
Henssler’s volunteer team included Chole Crist, Kimberly and Keaira Reed, Tony Johnson, Giuliana Barbagelata, Stefanie McKinney, Melanie Wells, D.J. Barker, Tina Burgess, Medy Thavong, Joanne Wilson, Michelle Cain, Rebecca Lancaster, Belinda Matonak, Christian Allen, Nick Antonucci, Daniel Adams, and Rhonda Dickerson.
The CFR has been helping make Thanksgiving traditions happen for more than 30 years through their Thanks for Giving program. Thanksgiving week can be even more financially stressful when students are home from school for more than just the holiday meal. The Center for Family Resources has been empowering Cobb families to self-sufficiency since 1960.
