DECEMBER 2015. KENNESAW, Ga.— One perfect swing that resulted in a high arcing shot with a slight draw toward the pin was all it took. That single stroke netted Stephen Reich $71,000 toward the purchase of a luxury car.
Kennesaw resident Reich made a hole-in-one, winning an Audi during Henssler Financial’s Third Annual Client Golf Tournament at Marietta Country Club in October.
“Every golfer knows the feel of hitting an iron flush. It looked good from the moment I picked up the ball in flight. The ball hit left of the pin and jumped right, directly towards the cup. I knew it was very close, but we could not see the cup as it was on a plateau,” Reich said of his hole-in-one swing.
According to Golf Digest, an amateur golfer’s chance of an ace is 12,500 to 1. Even Reich, an avid golfer with a low handicap, still faced 5,000 to 1 odds. However, because Reich was able to ace a designated hole, those odds were 20,000 to 1.
“I never thought about a hole-in-one. I was excited because we were playing very well as a team, and another birdie would put us in great shape to win the tournament,” Reich said.
The 176-yard par-4 hole-in-one contest was sponsored by Jim Ellis Audi Marietta. The winning ace was made on Hole 2 on the Mountain View course and witnessed by Reich’s foursome partners and two witnesses, one at the tee box and one on the green.
“The observer at the green never said a word or showed any emotion until we arrived at the green and asked about my ball. He calmly said, ‘It’s in the hole,’” Reich explained. “Then, we let everyone on the course know,” Reich said.
“This was the first time in in our tournament’s history that anyone has made a hole-in-one!” said Gene Henssler, Ph.D., President and Chief Investment Officer of Henssler Financial. “We have a lot of fun at this tournament with all sorts of prizes for hole-in-ones, longest drives and closest-to-the-pin, all across the course. This was the 12th hole of the tournament for Stephen’s foursome, so they had been playing for well more than three hours when he made this shot. It’s simply unbelievable!”
Reich’s winnings were for the equivalent of a new Audi A7, but Reich opted for a certified-preowned A8, a car more conducive to his lifestyle.
“The A7 is a beautiful, sporty automobile. Since I’m used to driving larger SUVs, I wanted something roomier to accommodate my family. The beautiful A8 met those requirements exactly,” said Reich.
“Since I have never looked at Audi automobiles, I decided I had better do some research,” Reich continued. “What I found was that Audi is a superior car in style, performance and reliability. I’m ecstatic about owning an Audi and thank Jim Ellis Audi Marietta for their sponsorship.”
