The Kennesaw State University Student Managed Investment Fund won first place at the Global Asset Management Education Forum in the undergraduate growth style investment competition in New York.
The Global Asset Management Education Forum is a global conference, hosted by Quinnipiac University, featuring participation from more than 1,200 students from 140 colleges, 40 countries and 39 states. The forum gives students the unique opportunity to interact with industry leaders and learn best practices in investment management.
During the forum, the student-managed portfolio competition is available for student teams who have managed an actual portfolio during the 2014 calendar year. Student-managed portfolios compete in the areas of growth, value, core, balanced, and fixed income styles of management. The portfolio competition is based on brokerage statements and monthly returns. In 2014, Kennesaw’s Student Managed Investment Fund strategic asset allocation achieved a high return with relatively low risk when it returned 15.4%, (vs the benchmark S&P 500’s 11.3%), with a market beta of 0.89 and a Sharpe ratio of 1.7.
Kennesaw’s Student Managed Investment Fund was established in 2008 with a donation from Henssler Financial. The Fund provides real-time, hands on experience in portfolio management and investing for its top business majors. The Fund is managed by the Student Executive Board. Professor Stefano Mazzotta, Ph.D., serves as the faculty advisor for the Fund.
