Positive Territory

Stocks stepped up today on Wall Street. Bank of America, Travelers, Hewlett-Packard and Alcoa led advancers on the Dow. Brands climbed amid the release of favorable economic data. Personal spending increased in July. Spending was up 0.8% last month, compared to June’s decrease of 0.1%. Meanwhile, personal incomes rose 0.3%, following a 0.2% jump in June. Elsewhere, crude oil added $1.90 to settle at $87.27 a barrel. Looking ahead, the FOMC will release minutes from its latest meeting on Tuesday and August employment numbers will see the light of day on Friday.
