Brands Climb

Friday’s session ended with gains. Energy shares such as Chevron and Schlumberger led the ascent. Crude oil added $1.52 to settle at $106.87 a barrel. Meanwhile, new home sales dipped slightly in February. The Commerce Department said sales fell 1.6% to a 313,000 annual pace, down from 318,000 in January, and shy of an expected rate of 325,000 units. On the horizon, pending home sales data will be released next week.
