Wednesday’s session was mixed. The Dow and S&P 500 shed some points. The Nasdaq closed with slight gains. Alcoa, Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase led decliners on the Dow. Brands rebounded somewhat from early low levels. Crude oil slipped by 94 cents to settle at $105.22 a barrel. Meanwhile, the ADP National Employment report failed to impress. An estimated 119,000 private-sector jobs were added in April, which was far less than the consensus estimate of about 170,000 jobs. Looking ahead to tomorrow, General Motors will issue earnings details and the Labor Department will release weekly jobless claims numbers.
