Mixed Moves

Thursday’s session ended with mixed moves. JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America led decliners on the Dow. The Nasdaq posted slight gains, led higher by Apple. Meanwhile, the Labor Department said initial jobless claims fell by 14,000 to 374,000 last week. The prior week’s numbers were revised up from 386,000 to 388,000. On another note, service industry activity decreased in June. The Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index slipped to 52.1 from 53.7 in May. Elsewhere, crude oil shed 44 cents to settle at $87.22 a barrel. Looking ahead, June employment figures will be released tomorrow morning.
