Brands Retreat on June Jobs Data

Alcoa, Caterpillar and Hewlett-Packard led the Dow’s descent Friday. Stocks traded lower in the wake of less-than-stellar jobs numbers for June. The Labor Department said that U.S. employers added 80,000 jobs last month, which was shy of the consensus estimate of 100,000 additions. The unemployment rate held steady at 8.2%. On another note, crude oil slipped $2.77 to settle at $84.45 a barrel. Looking ahead to next week, earnings season kicks off on Monday with quarterly details due from aluminum titan Alcoa.
