A Mixed Session

Friday’s session closed out with mixed moves. Home Depot, Boeing, Intel, and DuPont led the Dow’s ascent. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq shed some points. Early market momentum faded late in the session. Trading action was mixed amid the release of monthly employment numbers. The Labor Department said the U.S. economy added 114,000 jobs in September. The results were shy of the consensus estimate of 120,000 jobs. Additionally, the unemployment rate fell to 7.8% last month, a 44-month low level, down from 8.1% in August. On another note, crude oil futures dipped by $1.83 today to settle at $89.88 a barrel. Looking ahead to next week, earnings season kicks off with data due from aluminum titan Alcoa.
