Friday's Session Ends with Mixed Results

Indices closed out mixed on Friday. The Dow and S&P 500 hit a five-year high level and ended in the green zone while the Nasdaq shed some points. General Electric stepped up after reporting respectable fourth-quarter results. Caterpillar, AT&T and DuPont also led the Dow up. In other news, consumer sentiment is on the wane this month. The University of Michigan’s consumer confidence index registered a preliminary reading of 71.3 for January. Down from a final reading of 72.9.in December, economists had expected a jump to 75.
