Indices ended mixed on Wednesday. The Dow and S&P 500 closed marginally lower, while the Nasdaq posted fractional gains. Procter & Gamble, Caterpillar and McDonald’s led decliners on the Dow. Trading was choppy amid comments from the latest FOMC meeting where policymakers decided to further extend Operation Twist. Elsewhere, crude oil shed $2.90 to settle at $81.45 a barrel after the Energy Department reported greater-than-expected domestic inventories of crude and gasoline. Looking ahead, the Labor Department will release weekly initial jobless claims details tomorrow.
